Gravitas Ventures specializes in the aggregation of entertainment content for worldwide distribution via established and evolving platforms in cable Video on Demand (VOD), broadband, mobile and the airline/hospitality industries. The company connects independent filmmakers, producers, and distribution companies to leading cable, satellite, telco and online distribution partners.
The founder, Nolan Gallagher, worked at Comcast and Warner Bros. as VOD was first being rolled out nationwide. Nolan saw a desire for independent product in the VOD marketplace and launched Gravitas in 2006.
Shortly thereafter, Gravitas signed a license agreement with Warner Bros. which is still in place today. In 2008 Gravitas began programming directly with dozens of cable, satellite and telco operators through its monthly VOD packages: Gravitas New Release Movies on Demand and Gravitas Events on Demand.
In 2009, Gravitas continued its growth by launching its third programming package, Gravitas Horror on Demand, and partnering with Netflix in order to make select titles available on their Watch Instantly platform.
2010 has seen the addition of several prominent content partners including UTV, one of the largest studios in India, and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). Working in tandem with PBS, Gravitas recently launched its fourth programming package: Documentaries on Demand.
2010 also saw new deals with many growing online sites including Amazon, Hulu and YouTube. Today more than 50 VOD operators in North America have access to new Gravitas Programming on a monthly basis.
