Nolan Gallagher: Founder & CEO
Nolan Gallagher is CEO of Gravitas Ventures, which he founded in 2006. Under Nolan’s leadership, Gravitas has released more than 1,700 films on Video on Demand (VOD). Through its relationships with studios and VOD operators, Gravitas can distribute a film into over 100 million North American and worldwide homes. Previously, Nolan worked in corporate marketing roles at industry leaders Comcast, Warner Bros., and General Cinema Theatres. Nolan has spoken on numerous industry panels including the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), SXSW Film Festival, Los Angeles Film Festival, and the Produced By Conference. Nolan was born in Cleveland, Ohio and received his MBA from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California and his undergraduate business degree from Boston College. Michael Murphy: President
Michael has been instrumental in growing the company’s distribution footprint. As President, he manages distribution of Gravitas’ library of more than 2000 titles to more than 100 transactional, subscription, and ad-sponsored VOD operators on a worldwide basis. Michael has spoken about film distribution at many industry panels including SXSW Film Festival, Palo Alto Film Festival, Variety’s BRIC Summit, Variety’s BritWeek Film and TV Summit, and WestDoc Conference. Prior to joining Gravitas Ventures in 2007, Michael was Captain in the US Army where he served over four years on active duty as a Judge Advocate. In 2005 he deployed with the 3rd Infantry Division in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Michael holds a JD from the University of Akron School of Law and a BA from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA.
Brendan Gallagher: Vice President of Business Affairs
Brendan joins Gravitas as our Vice President of Business Affairs following 5 years of practice as an attorney at Frantz Ward LLP in Cleveland, Ohio, where he predominantly focused on commercial litigation, insurance disputes, and labor and employment issues. As part of his practice, Brendan also supervised the nationwide litigation efforts of a banking client’s automobile-financing division. Brendan holds a JD from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law (summa cum laude) and a BA from Boston College. Prior to attending law school, Brendan worked for the business-consulting company Accenture, participating in client engagements at NASA, Dow Chemical, and Consol Energy among others.
Melanie Miller: Vice President of Acquisitions and Marketing
Melanie is a nineteen-year veteran of the film industry with an uncanny ability to recognize talent. These skills have been honed over the course of her career while working as a Producer, Music Supervisor and Casting Associate. It was in 2004 Melanie became actively involved with the inception of the Jackson Hole Film Institute and was a key player in the establishment, growth, and immediate success of its flagship event, the Jackson Hole Film Festival. Melanie was the Program Director and later the Artistic Director of the Institute through 2008. In 2009 Melanie launched Fishbowl Films, which currently has several projects in various stages of development and it’s first feature film, DETOUR, complete. Melanie joined Gravitas in the fall of 2009 and currently heads up the Acquisitions team.
Chad Miller arrives at Gravitas Ventures after 6 years at AT&T U-verse Television where he helped build and grow their VoD business (both transactional and free). Prior to that Chad worked at iN Demand where he supervised the scheduling of what was then known as “NVoD” (near video-on-demand) and also PPV content. His entertainment background includes extensive screenplay development work at various studios and production companies, including Phoenix Pictures. He began his career at the United Talent Agency (UTA) where he worked his way up from the ubiquitous mailroom training grounds to first a position in their famed story department and then as an agent-in-training within the literary representation division. Pursuing his strong conviction that VoD is the near-term future of entertainment business, Chad recognized the opportunity in joining the Gravitas team in 2011.
Julie Candelaria is Vice President of Marketing where she leads fully integrated marketing strategy and execution for exceptional films from Gravitas Ventures. Julie brings over 15 years of entertainment marketing experience with such companies as NBC Universal, DreamWorks, 20th Century Fox, DIRECTV, and Starz. Most recently, Julie was instrumental in the marketing and execution of the Starz Originals Television Series worldwide (Spartacus, Da Vinci’s Demons), as well as in leading The Weinstein Company releases in both the digital and packaged goods space. Julie has extensive experience across all aspects of marketing for theatrical, home entertainment, and VOD, spearheading marketing for Academy Award-winning and nominated films. Julie earned her undergraduate business degree from USC’s Marshall School of Business and her MBA from Pepperdine’s Graziadio School.
Karia Brown: Director of Operations
Karia joined Gravitas in the fall of 2012, with an extensive background in domestic and foreign deliverables. Prior to Gravitas, Karia worked for six years in post production, working directly with independent filmmakers and distributors. As Director of Operations, Karia oversees delivery of Gravitas films to both domestic and foreign platforms; facilitating with filmmakers and managing the relationships with preferred vendors. Originally from Oregon, Karia is an accomplished musician with a BA in Music from Eastern Oregon University.
Rebecca Luna: Senior Manager of Accounting
Rebecca joins our team with more than 14 years experience in the accounting field. She has been instrumental in setting up accounting practices, reporting structures and implementing cost effective strategies for companies in the international e-commerce, fitness and specialty advertising industries. Rebecca is also the founder of COOKIE MOON, a natural & organic doggie spa products company which she launched in 2007. A native of Southern California, Rebecca received her Bachelor’s Degree from California State Long Beach. She joined Gravitas Ventures in 2012 as the Accounting Manager.
Mia Bruno: Senior Manager of Acquisitions
Mia Bruno joined Gravitas Ventures in 2011 with an extensive background in the film industry, both domestic and international. After living for a year in France and working in acquisitions during the Cannes Film Festival, she moved to New York, and worked for two independent film production companies, doing everything from the casting process to driving a cube truck. Mia also has vast experience working in development, having worked as a reader at several prominent production companies in both New York and Los Angeles. Fluent in French, Mia brings a sophisticated and cultured eye to Gravitas Ventures. Mia graduated Magna cum laude from Barnard College in New York City.
Jennifer Winberg: Senior Director of Audience Engagement
Jennifer Winberg is SR Director of Audience Engagement where she works across the business identifying digital and social opportunities to bring audiences closer to the unique films from Gravitas Ventures. Prior to joining, Winberg was US Head of Social Media and PR at Way to Blue, a global communication agency headquartered in London, UK where she ran both international and domestic campaigns for film studios such as Fox, Sony, DreamWorks Animation, and Warner Brothers. She spent two years in NYC, as Lead Social Media Strategist for the international agency Momentum Worldwide working with clients such as Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, American Express, Starwood Hotels, Porsche, Tribeca Film Festival, and Coca Cola. A Texas native, she began her career after graduating from film school in entertainment PR working for independent directors and entertainment organizations such as AFI Dallas, Women in Film, and FUNimation.
Mark Lyons: Operations Manager
Mark Lyons joined the Gravitas team in 2013 after years of working film production on everything from independent features to web series. As Operations Coordinator, he works in tandem with Karia Brown to deliver nearly 40 films a month across multiple cable providers, while simultaneously overseeing delivery to internet platforms such as iTunes, Netflix, Google/YouTube, Amazon Instant Video, and more. Originally from South Dakota, Mark graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Film Studies from the University of Notre Dame.
Matt Delman: Marketing Manager
Matt joined the Gravitas team in early 2014 to support the marketing and publicity of their theatrical titles. After graduating magna cum laude with a film degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2011, Matt moved to New York City to pursue working in independent film. He spent a year covering scripts for producer Scott Rudin and a year with The Bully Project, the social outreach arm of the documentary Bully, which boasts over 600,000 Facebook fans and has become one of the largest social film movements. Matt moved to Los Angeles to work for Polsky Films where he coordinated the marketing and theatrical release of their critically acclaimed film The Motel Life as well as working on projects in development. He hopes to contribute to the Gravitas team with a passion for graphic design, editing and social media.
