Nolan Gallagher: Founder & CEO
Nolan Gallagher is CEO of Gravitas Ventures, which he founded in 2006. Under Nolan’s leadership, Gravitas has become all rights theatrical distribution company which has released more than 2,500 films on Video on Demand (VOD). Through its relationships with studios and VOD operators, Gravitas can distribute a film into over 100 million North American and over 1 Billion worldwide homes. Previously, Nolan worked in corporate marketing roles at industry leaders Comcast, Warner Bros., and General Cinema Theatres. Nolan has spoken on numerous industry panels including the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), SXSW Film Festival, Los Angeles Film Festival, and the Produced By Conference. Nolan was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He received his MBA from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California and his undergraduate business degree from Boston College. Michael Murphy: President
Michael has been instrumental in growing the company’s distribution footprint. As President, he manages distribution of Gravitas’ library of more than 2,500 titles to more than 100 transactional, subscription, and ad-sponsored VOD operators on a worldwide basis. Michael has spoken about film distribution at many industry panels including SXSW Film Festival, Palo Alto Film Festival, Variety’s BRIC Summit, Variety’s BritWeek Film and TV Summit, and WestDoc Conference. Prior to joining Gravitas Ventures in 2007, Michael was Captain in the US Army where he served over four years on active duty as a Judge Advocate. In 2005 he deployed with the 3rd Infantry Division in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Michael holds a JD from the University of Akron School of Law and a BA from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA.
Brendan Gallagher: Senior Vice President of Business Affairs
Brendan joins Gravitas as our Vice President of Business Affairs following 5 years of practice as an attorney at Frantz Ward LLP in Cleveland, Ohio, where he predominantly focused on commercial litigation, insurance disputes, and labor and employment issues. As part of his practice, Brendan also supervised the nationwide litigation efforts of a banking client’s automobile-financing division. Brendan holds a JD from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law (summa cum laude) and a BA from Boston College. Prior to attending law school, Brendan worked for the business-consulting company Accenture, participating in client engagements at NASA, Dow Chemical, and Consol Energy among others.
Julie Candelaria is Vice President of Marketing where she leads fully integrated marketing strategy and execution for exceptional films from Gravitas Ventures. Julie brings over 15 years of entertainment marketing experience with such companies as NBC Universal, DreamWorks, 20th Century Fox, DIRECTV, and Starz. Most recently, Julie was instrumental in the marketing and execution of the Starz Originals Television Series worldwide (Spartacus, Da Vinci’s Demons), as well as in leading The Weinstein Company releases in both the digital and packaged goods space. Julie has extensive experience across all aspects of marketing for theatrical, home entertainment, and VOD, spearheading marketing for Academy Award-winning and nominated films. Julie earned her undergraduate business degree from USC’s Marshall School of Business and her MBA from Pepperdine’s Graziadio School.
With seventeen years of experience in the home entertainment industry, Griffin Gmelich is a seasoned executive who has held multiple senior positions during his career. Griffin joins Gravitas following three years at Hulu where he led film content acquisitions efforts. As the head of the film vertical at Hulu, Griffin was instrumental in overall growth of the film category as well as identifying opportunities in original programming and stand-up-comedy. Prior to Hulu, Griffin was the Head of Domestic Sales for Entertainment One, Vice President of Sales for Universal-Vivendi and held several positions at Warner Home Video in sales and communications. He received his B.A from the University of San Diego, is an active alumnus of Loyola Los Angeles, and sits on the Board of Directors for Foundation Sports.
Chad Miller arrives at Gravitas Ventures after 6 years at AT&T U-verse Television where he helped build and grow their VoD business (both transactional and free). Prior to that Chad worked at iN Demand where he supervised the scheduling of what was then known as “NVoD” (near video-on-demand) and also PPV content. His entertainment background includes extensive screenplay development work at various studios and production companies, including Phoenix Pictures. He began his career at the United Talent Agency (UTA) where he worked his way up from the ubiquitous mailroom training grounds to first a position in their famed story department and then as an agent-in-training within the literary representation division. Pursuing his strong conviction that VoD is the near-term future of entertainment business, Chad recognized the opportunity in joining the Gravitas team in 2011.
Karia Brown: Senior Director of Operations
Karia joined Gravitas in the fall of 2012, with an extensive background in domestic and foreign deliverables. Prior to Gravitas, Karia worked for six years in post production, working directly with independent filmmakers and distributors. As Director of Operations, Karia oversees delivery of Gravitas films to both domestic and foreign platforms; facilitating with filmmakers and managing the relationships with preferred vendors. Originally from Oregon, Karia is an accomplished musician with a BA in Music from Eastern Oregon University.
Rebecca Luna: Senior Director of Accounting & HR
Rebecca joins our team with more than 14 years experience in the accounting field. She has been instrumental in setting up accounting practices, reporting structures and implementing cost effective strategies for companies in the international e-commerce, fitness and specialty advertising industries. Rebecca is also the founder of COOKIE MOON, a natural & organic doggie spa products company which she launched in 2007. A native of Southern California, Rebecca received her Bachelor’s Degree from California State Long Beach. She joined Gravitas Ventures in 2012 as the Accounting Manager.
AJ Feuerman: Director of PR
AJ Feuerman brings almost ten years of public relations and social media experience to Gravitas. She specializes in planning and executing innovative campaigns that include both traditional and digital mechanics as well as blogger and influencer outreach initiatives. Her extensive entertainment PR and digital background includes working at AEG Live – managing PR for touring artists like The Rolling Stones, Kanye West and Katy Perry, representing 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Millennium Entertainment and Crown Media Family Networks. AJ is also in her fourth year on the Board of Directors for Social Media Club Los Angeles, now serving as President. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU and her Master’s Degree from USC.
Mark Lyons joined the Gravitas team in 2013 after years of working film production on everything from independent features to web series. As Senior Manager of Sales & Business Development, he works in tandem with Griffin Gmelich to inform Gravitas cable and internet VOD partners of upcoming releases and planning promotions, while also looking to form new relationships with new and emerging VOD platforms. Originally from South Dakota, Mark graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Film Studies from the University of Notre Dame.
Nancy Sanchez: Marketing Manager
Nancy Sanchez joined the Gravitas team in spring of 2015 after years of working on the agency side with clients like Universal, The Weinstein Company, Fox, and HBO to name a few. As Marketing Manager, she works with Julie Candelaria to manage and execute fully integrated marketing campaigns for Gravitas’ tent pole releases. Graduating from Cal State Fullerton with a double major in Advertising and Graphic Design, she is also currently working on attaining a Business & Management in Entertainment Certificate at UCLA Extension. She hopes to use her strategic and creative background to take independent films to the next level.
Zahida Kazar: Operations Coordinator
Zahida Kazar joined Gravitas as Operations Coordinator, working with Karia Brown and Mark Lyons to help deliver Gravitas films to a variety of internet and cable platforms. An LA native, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Film from UCLA and has since worked behind the scenes in various shorts, indie features and a web series after graduating from UCLA. Zahida’s passion for all things film related also led her to administrative roles at Warner Bros. and Fox before joining the Gravitas team in the fall of 2014.
Michael Lange: Film Acquisitions Coordinator
Michael Lange joined the Gravitas team in 2014 after working in post-production at Red Bull Media House. As Acquisitions Coordinator, Michael works alongside Chad Miller to track and acquire projects that contribute to Gravitas’ monthly slate of over thirty films a month. He’s also an accomplished filmmaker, with web shorts he’s directed and or acted in receiving over 20 million views collectively. Michael graduated from Loyola Marymount University in 2013 with a degree in Film Production.
Lindsey Moffat: Business Affairs Coordinator
Lindsey Moffat joined the Gravitas team as an intern immediately upon obtaining her BA in Film Production from Cleveland State University in 2014. Working primarily in production throughout her educational studies, Lindsey strongly pursued the opportunity to learn more about independent distribution after graduating. As a Cleveland native, Lindsey is passionate about recognizing the city for its film presence and could not be more excited to see how strong Cleveland film can become from inside the industry. Lindsey is passionate about writing and research in all aspects of media studies and is driven by the opportunity to learn on a daily basis. Lindsey eagerly joined the Cleveland office as their business affairs coordinator in 2015.
Melissa Perez: PR Coordinator
Melissa arrives at Gravitas Ventures after years of working multiple facets of the Entertainment sector. She has worked both marketing and public relations for such companies as Universal Studios Hollywood, ESPN, Univision, and The Regan Group. Melissa most recently was on the talent agency side representing top talent in dance and choreography. As the Public Relations Coordinator, Melissa works in tandem with AJ Feureman and Julie Candelaria to coordinate and support effective campaigns for acquisitions. Her affinity for film has even led her to dabble in acting in a few short films in the collegiate independent film scene. Born and raised in sunny Southern California, Melissa received her Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies and Psychology from Loyola Marymount University.
Anna joins Gravitas as Creative Coordinator to support the Operations and Marketing Teams in the coordination of effective and timely delivery of our films and marketing campaigns. A North Carolina native, she graduated from UNC and UNCW with degrees in Business Administration and Film Studies, respectively, before heading off to California to work in the entertainment industry. Anna’s experience at Vertigo Entertainment and Deluxe On Demand led her to join the Gravitas team in the spring of 2015
Monique Rodriguez: Accounting Coordinator
Monique Rodriguez arrives at Gravitas with an eye for detail. Her initial role as the Accounting Intern at Gravitas helped the Director of Accounting manage daily accounting tasks. She currently assists Rebecca Luna with recording revenue and generating reports for the many titles distributed by Gravitas. She is currently attending Arizona State University, majoring in Film & Media Studies. Her short-term goal is to learn three languages in three years, in which she hopes to become fluent in Spanish, French, and Catalan.
Nicholas Royak: Executive Assistant
Nicholas Royak joined Gravitas Ventures in 2014 fresh out of film school at Cleveland State University. A Cleveland native, he is eager to expand his perspective on the entertainment world while pouring back into the creative arts community in Northeast Ohio. He has produced, written, and directed nearly a dozen different short films since he began his studies and is highly integrated into the local independent film scene. Nicholas is proud to call Gravitas his first full-time job in the film business, assuming the role of Executive Assistant in the Cleveland office. He hopes to use his eye for quality movies and comprehension of production in application of modern distribution.
