GRAVITAS VENTURES AND BENTEN FILMS BRING NEW FILMMAKERS TO VIDEO ON DEMAND
Comprehensive new media rights deal brings emerging 'mublecore' genre direct to living rooms.
LOS ANGELES- October 15, 2007 Gravitas Ventures, a world class new media distributor, and Benten Films a specialty DVD distributor have signed a multi-title licensing agreement. Under the deal, acclaimed films such as LOL, Quiet City, and Guatemalan Handshake will have the opportunity to reach millions of video on demand (VOD) households worldwide.
As part of the deal, films LOL and Quiet City will make their VOD debuts across North America in the Spring of 2008. From acclaimed auteur Joe Swanberg (Hannah Takes the Stairs, Kissing on the Mouth) LOL is a raw, witty and painfully intimate look at modern sexuality and the technology that either helps us click or turns us off. Quiet City, directed by Aaron Katz, tells the story of a chance encounter between Jamie and Charlie and the 24 hours they spend drifting through New York City.
Both Mr. Swanberg and Mr. Katz were recently featured in Rolling Stone's What's Hot issue for furthering the genre of 'mublecore' which blends authentic dialogue with up close and personal production values.
Upon completing the deal, Nolan Gallagher Founder and C.E.O. of Gravitas Ventures remarked "Andrew Grant has been covering the New York film scene for years. Through the efforts of Benten Films many new directorial voices will have an even wider audience thanks to this innovative VOD effort."
Andrew Grant, Founder of Benten Films added "We're thrilled to be making these films available to a VOD audience. Though small in budget and scope, these are some of the most interesting films being produced in America today, and this is a terrific opportunity to make them available to those who might not otherwise seek them out."
Gravitas Ventures, through its licensing arrangement with Warner Digital Distribution and others successfully sells to dozens of clients in the video on demand (VOD), pay per view (PPV), internet protocol television (IPTV), and electronic sell through (EST) marketplace. Under these agreements Heretic programs will be available to industry leaders such as iNDEMAND, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Cable, Cablevision, TVN, AT&T, Verizon, Direct TV, Dish Network, On Command, Lodge Net, Apple i-Tunes, Microsoft X-Box, Amazon Unbox, CinemaNow, Movielink and many more.
